Aurasma

Augmented reality in the future is likely to play a bigger role within Assitive Technology applications and devices, particularly within support learning.  Here is an application that lets you create and share you own augmented reality experiences.   I found this app quite easy to use.  Just take a picture of something you want to make interactive and then tag it to content such as video and animations.  There are some good online tutorials available on Youtube.

Aurasma uses image and pattern recognition to blend the real-world with rich interactive content called “Auras”.  So when you view the image using the Aurasma app the multimedia content will shortly pop up over the static content.

An application for this app could for example, provide some alt-text on a magazine images for visually impaired users.  Or, within Universal Design for learning to add rich multimedia content to static content.  It is available on both the iTunes App Store and on Google Play for free!
